Mornings with The Hometown Guy
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Hi! I’m Eric, and I am a second-generation broadcaster. I’ve been on the radio since my dad, Tom, had me help him with an Abby’s Pizza radio spot. Yup, I’ve been Air Worden for a lifetime, but the last 20 have been right here in Hampton Roads. Even if you have not heard my morning show before, I bet you have heard my voice. As a professional voice actor for Studio Center Total Media, I have been on national TV and radio ads for Stihl, Ferguson Enterprises, Elmer’s Glue, Arby’s, Pillsbury and Toyota. I have narrated programs for The Speed Network, Discovery Channel, History Channel and the Travel Channel.
I’ve worked in a ton of formats, but this is my absolute favorite. The official title may be Adult Album Alternative, but I just call it good music. The mix is unique …like me! Handpicked means passion-picked! I love our community, and I am thrilled with The Tide’s commitment to all of us and the lives we lead.
Besides music, I love art of any kind, and make quite a few mixed media pieces under the name “The Game Worden”. I even found a way to combine my love of music, art and kids by co-founding a non-profit, educational program with my friend, Michael Goldberg, called “Magic – The State of the Arts.” It’s like School House Rock on Red Bull.
I am blessed with three amazing kids from 13 to 30, and being their dad is my life’s most important role. Travel, hiking, snowboarding, playing guitar …I’m enjoying the ride. Just want to make a difference while here. Be a light. Connect with people. Help the community. Enjoy my children. See the world. Be a Pepper.
Some Questions We Asked Eric:
What is the song you will never get tired of? It would be easy to choose Elton John’s “Madman Across The Water,” but I’m going with “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” by John Lennon. Fatherhood is magical – and this song just crushes my heart. Though sad when taking into account the tragedy that followed the recording of this song, it strengthens my resolve to appreciate every moment I have with my kids Andrew, Peyton and Colby.
What is the most random thing that you do in your spare time? Duh! Thrift Store? I’ve been poppin’ tags since before Macklemore was a Cabbage Patch Kid.
What is your favorite smell? Has to be the forest. It’s one of my favorite parts of Christmas. For a few weeks every year, my home smells like you’re walking in the woods.
What is your favorite place to go on the Southside? Hard to beat a walk on the beach at the North End, but I would have to say enjoying a great latte on a Ghent patio. Whether an iced chai at Starbucks or a vanilla latte at Stella, it’s nice to relax, doodle and people-watch.
What is something you have never done? Drive a Corvette
What is your favorite vacation so far? European trifecta: Munich, Germany to Copenhagen, Denmark to London, England. Eurail anyone? Next time, I’ll do it faster …auf der Autobahn!
If you weren’t working in radio, what would you be doing? Creating art. Songwriting, photography, mixed media, children’s books, poetry …so much to create, so little time.
